THE LEGACY YEARS
BIG DIGGER
Was Home
Russell first joined Big Digger in 1997, becoming part of a band that would shape an important chapter of his musical life.

In 2002, he moved on to pursue other projects, retuning to bands such as Dead Ringer and The Amigos, while the friendships forged in Big Digger remained.

Fourteen years later in 2016, he returned.

What followed were nine years of music, friendship, festivals, road trips, late-night laughs and memories that would become some of the most treasured years of his life.

On September 27th, 2025, Russell took to the stage with Big Digger one final time.

No one knew it would be his last.

RESPECTED BY RUSSELL
RESPECTED BY RUSSELL
When Russell became unwell, he spoke with Joe to step in temporarily - someone he trusted to protect the sound, the standard, and the spirit of Big Digger.

At the same time, it was never meant to be permanent. It was simply Russell making sure the music would continue.

But after his passing, Joe remained - not as a replacement, because nobody could replace Russell - but as the person chosen by him to carry that guitar forward.
That trust means everything.

WHAT THEY'LL REMEMBER
He never walked into rehearsal quietly - somehow the whole room changed.
- SEAN HAYES
You always knew Russell was ready ...
he'd play that opening riff and smile.
- FRANKIE HAYES
He made hard gigs feel easy.
- KEITH DOYLE
I don't replace him. Nobody could.
I just carry it forward.

Big Digger wasn't built on rehearsals and gigs alone.
It was built on loyalty, trust, years of laughter, late-night calls, shared stages, and the kind of friendship that becomes family.

For Russell, these weren't just bandmates.
They were brothers.
